Infrared (IR) Thermography is a widely recognised and effective non-destructive inspection technique for checking electrical and mechanical systems. Infrared thermographic cameras are used to detect thermal energy and convert to visible images. The images can then be analysed by a thermographer who can identify any problem areas. Used in conjunction with the range of Mimic Condition Monitoring techniques, such as vibration and lubricating oil analysis, thermographic images add an extra dimension of information to the state of health of the engineering system on board.
